Russia ready to consider Belarusian debt refinancing — Minister – Business and Economy


MOSCOW, February 16. /TASS/. Russia is ready to consider Belarusian proposals to help refinance the country’s foreign debt, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov told reporters.

“We see the need to support the refinancing of Belarus’ debt vis-à-vis external creditors, Russia in the first place, in an environment of constraints affecting our neighbour. We are ready in this regard to examine the proposals for our Belarusian colleagues, partners on the issues of helping to refinance debts to Russia. We will solve the problem with regard to the future format, whether through the Eurasian Fund or loans from foreign states,” said said Siluanov.

This may mainly refer to the refinancing of main debt worth about $1 billion to Russia and the Eurasian Stabilization and Development Fund, the minister said.

“Liabilities under the main debt, the debt agency, to Russia and the Eurasian Stabilization and Development Fund are slightly less than 1 billion dollars. We are interacting in this regard with our Belarusian partners to provide a assistance in refinancing these debts through our credit interactions with our neighboring partners. This is the current year,” Siluanov added.
